Damage originally thought to be due to compression, the failure at KM 104+950 is actually due to offset across the fault, not compression. This section of the railroad between Izmit and Arifiye was affected. Near Tepetarla Station, the lateral deformation of the railway was about 2.7 meters with about 1 meter vertical movement.
