ObjectivesApply dynamic loads to a high damping rubber bearing and use the experimental results to determine/predict its restoring force characteristics.
AbstractThis paper describes dynamic results of a high damping rubber bearing and discusses analytical models for the hysteretic restoring force. The dynamic tests were carried out for the rubber bearing of 588 kN rated load, which comprised of 23 rubber sheets of 6 mm thickness and 450 mm diameter bonded to steel plates. The rubber bearing was designed to provide the 60,000 kg rated mass with a horizontal natural frequency of about 0.5 Hz and an equivalent damping ratio of about 15%. The test results revealed various properties of the horizontal and vertical stiffness and equivalent damping ratios obtained from the hysteretic restoring force loop. Three analytical models were proposed to express the hysteretic restoring force, and appropriateness of each model was evaluated.
