The Berkeley Earthquake Protective Systems Group and the PROSYS Online Database

PROSYS Logo

Introduction

This site has been developed to disseminate data on design, testing, and implementation of passive earthquake protective systems. Because of the tremendous advances which have taken place in this field over the past two decades, there is substantial demand for detailed experimental results on individual components and structural systems incorporating innovative protective systems. However, these experimental research results are scattered throughout the technical literature. Also, as the number of applications has increased worldwide, it has become difficult for practicing engineers to stay abreast of the evolutions in design criteria in the many countries utilizing these technologies.

The mission of this site is to:

As a first step, a WWW-queryable database has been implemented which catalogs test results on individual protective systems components (PROSYS). This will be extended to include interlinkages with system tests and applications in the near future.

Available Information

This site and the PROSYS database are currently in the development stage, and considerable work remains to be done to broaden the scope of the information incorporated and the linkages among the various types of information. We encourage visitors to this site to provide feedback and suggestions for further information to be included.

Acknowledgements

The developers would like to acknowledge the California Department of Transportation for their support of the development of this site. The National Information Service for Earthquake Engineering has also provided substantial in-kind technical support.
