Human Behavior During and Immediately After the Loma Prieta Earthquake.

Random digit dialing (rdd) procedures were used to select a sample of 690 residents of Los Angeles County following the Whittier Narrows ea rthquake and 656 residents of the 5-county Bay Area following the Loma Prieta earthquake. Data were collected by telephone interview to inv estigate where people were at the time of the earthquakes, what they did, whether or not they experienced injury or damage, use of media, e arthquake preparedness engaged in before and after the earthquake and psychological distress at the time of the interview.
