The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveA quadratic linked plate element with an exact thin plate limitTaylor, Robert L.; Govindjee, Sanjay UCB/SEMM-2002/10, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 2002, 34 leaves (500/C23/2002/10) Details the development of a 6 node triangular plate element suitable for use in the simulation of anisotropic materials that generate membrane-shear coupling. Our canonical example of such a material is single crystal silicon in the wafer orientation. The plate uses quadratic fields to take advantage of the good convergence properties of quadratic elements in linear problems. Linked interpolations were used to produce an element with an exact thin plate limit. Available online: http://nisee.berkeley.edu/documents/SEMM/SEMM-2002-10.pdf (1 MB) |
