The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveNumerical simulation of case 2 diffusion in one dimensionVijalapura, Prashanth K. UCB/SEMM-2002/07, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, [2002], 66 pages (500/C23/2002/07) Time stepping schemes for the numerical simulation of Case 2 diffusion of a solvent into a glassy polymer are investigated. The Initial Boundary Value Problem (IBVP) obtained from the governing equations that incorporate these Case 2 diffusion models are highly nonlinear due to the following: a nonlinear flux law to produce sharp fronts, a concentration dependent relaxation time of the polymer to model glass-rubber transition, and coupling between the diffusion and mechanical displacements. Two examples of 1-D models are considered. Document is not currently available on-line. Please contact the EERC Library. |
