The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveOn permeable cracks in a piezoelectric ceramic. 2, Saturation strip modelLi, Shaofan UCB/SEMM-2002/05, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 2002, 31 leaves (500/C23/2002/05) The saturation-strip model for piezoelectric crack is re-examined in a permeable environment to analyze fracture toughness of a piezoelectric ceramic. The permeable saturation crack model presented here takes into account the effect of charge distribution on crack surfaces, which may be caused by any charge-discharge process in the dielectric medium inside the crack. Crack growth under purely applied electric load is re-examined in association with the saturation strip model, which is another outstanding problem in fracture mechanics of piezoelectric materials.
