The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveA model and numerical framework for the simulation of solid-solid phase transformationsHall, Garrett J.; Govindjee, Sanjay UCB/SEMM-1999/11, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1999, 29 pages (500/C23/1999/11) Presents a model and its computational realization for the simulation of solid-solid phase transformations of the type observed in shape memory alloys. The model includes both mechanically and thermally driven phase changes. It is based on mixture theory combined with a suitable kinetic model for phase evolution and explicitly accounts for reorientation of the crystalline anisotropy and the associated symmetry changes which are essential to the observance of memory effects.
