This report presents a detailed evaluation of the material characteristics of selected buildings of the Olive View Medical Center damaged in the 1971 San Fernando earthquake. The data include concrete field control test results, reinforcing steel mill test reports, and results of tests made in the laboratory. Included in this report are recommendations for changes in current code provisions dealing with design material characteristics and with quality control provisions for structures subjected to earthquakes.
