The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveA Theory of Finite Viscoelasticity and Numerical AspectsReese, Stefanie; Govindjee, Sanjay UCB/SEMM-1996/08, Dept. of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1996-08, 50 pages (500 C23 96-08) A model is presented for finite deformation viscoelasticity that utilizes a nonlinear evolution law and is not restricted to states close to the thermodynamic equilibrium. Upon appropriate linearization several established models of finite linear viscoelasticity and linear viscoelasticity can be recovered. The use of this model in a computational setting is also addressed and examples are presented to highlight the differences of the proposed model in relation to other available models.
