The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveBehavior of Window Panels Under In-Plane ForcesBouwkamp, Jack G. UCB/SESM-1960/07, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1960-02, 99 pages (550.3/B681/1960) The report discusses the results of in-plane loading tests of 39 glazed window panels performed in 1959. A horizontal in-plane force was applied to the horizontal top member of a steel, pin-connected, or hinged loading frame. The lateral deflection or drift of the window panel and the movement of the glass with respect to the sash were measured. Thirty three specimens were tested under static loads. Two tests were performed under repeated reverse loads and four under impact loads. The results examine panel size and panel configuration, panel attachment to hinged frame, sash material, clearance between sash and glass, hardness of putty.
