The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchivePrecast Chemically Prestressed Concrete FrameBertero, Vitelmo V.; Iragorry Montero, Guillermo J. UCB/SESM-1963/04b, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1963-10, 57 pages (500/C23/63/04b) Describes in detail the fabrication and experimental studies of 2 prestressed concrete frame models in order to investigate the feasibility of constructing concrete frames by connecting simple precast chemically prestressed structural elements. The structural elements were all self-stressed by chemical prestressing through the use of an expansive cement. To assure continuity at the knees of the frames, the connections between the precast prestressed elements were developed by the use of special end-bearing plates and high-strength steel bolts.
