The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveFinite Element Analysis of Two-Dimensional Stress Time-Dependent ProblemsKing, Ian P. UCB/SESM-1965/01, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1965-01, 109 pages (500/C23/65/01a) This investigation is concerned with the solution of generalized plane stress or plane strain problems which have time-dependent material properties. The finite element method is used in this analysis. It is assumed that materials have an initial elastic response followed by a creep strain which is dependent upon stress level and time. In the derivation of the effect of creep, it will be assumed that the directions of the principal stresses are approximately invariant over an interval, and that the creep model for one direction can be expanded into 2 dimensions along these directions.
