The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveA Study of a Multiple Integral Representation of the Constitutive Equation of a Nonlinear Viscoelastic SolidNeis, Vernon V.; Sackman, Jerome L. UCB/SESM-1966/09, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1966-07, 90 pages (500/C23/66/09) The applicability of a functional polynomial of third degree for the constitutive equation of a nonlinear viscoelastic polymer has been investigated. Creep measurements of tenion and compression in low density polyethylene under single step, two step, and three step loading histories are described as the basis for the determination of creep kernel functions. A close comparison between the experimental response to loading histories and the response predicted by the the three term integral representation was obtained.
