This study found that all axisymmetric waves travelling in very long composite rods do so at the speed of certain classical waves, as the wave length approaches zero. The velocities are those of Rayleigh waves in the casing, Stoneley waves and the shear velocities in each of the core and casing materials. The number and nature of the waves depend on the properties of the rod.
