The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveCement-grout filled joints under alternating loadsBouwkamp, Jack G.; Stephen, Roy M. UCB/SESM-1968/16, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1968-11, 36 pages (500/C23/68/16) The alternating load studies in this phase of the project provided information as to the alternating load life of this thin walled joint. An earlier phase demonstrated the thin walled Type I joint failed within the first 60 cycles of loading. The cement grout fill therefore increased the overall fatigue life by some 1200 cycles. However, thin walled grout filled joints are still significantly inferior to the performance for thick wall Type I joints.
