The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveModel Analysis of the Castaic Reservoir Intake TowerGodden, William G.; Tuncag, Mozaffer; Wasley, David L. UCB/SESM-1970/15, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1970-08, 129 pages (500/C23/70/15) The report presents experimental data from a model study of the structural vibrations of a hydraulic intake tower. The prototype structure is the high intake tower to be constructed at the Castaic Reservoir near Los Angeles, a proposed reinforced concrete design 215 ft. high, 39 ft. external diameter, and fitted with nine levels of four intake valves at each level. The report discusses the design and construction of the 1/30 distorted scale Plexiglass model fitted with external lead ring weights, instrumentation of the model, and dynamic response of the tower under a wide variety of specified flow conditions.
