The Earthquake Engineering Online ArchiveNonlinear Analysis of Plates Considering Geometric and Material EffectsBergan, Pål G. UCB/SESM-1971/07, Dept. of Civil Engineering, University of California, Berkeley, 1971-04, 185 pages (500/C23/71/07) Investigates nonlinear behavior of plates considering both geometric and physical nonlinearities. Large deflections are accounted for using von Karman strain expressions for plates and initial deformations are considered using Marguerre shallow shell theory. Establishing the variational principles, the equilibrium and incremental equations for general Rayleigh-Ritz type solutions are derived. The finite element method is adopted for the numerical solution of the problem. Available online: http://nisee.berkeley.edu/documents/SEMM/SEMM-71-07.pdf (8 MB) |
