Eight full scale studies of combined axial and lateral loadings to determine the structural behavior of 48 inch diameter oil pipeline test sections are reported. The resulting displacements and curvatures are significant in establishing operational limits as affected by local wrinkling or buckling of the pipe wall and safety limits necessary to prevent a rupture of the line. The experimental results show excellent agreement with the results of refined anaylsis methods that predict the pipe behavior under any given load.
