Discusses the propagation of elastic waves in media with an underlying discrete structure. The theory of doublet mechanics is employed to perform an analytical transition from the discrete to the continuum level. The 3-dimensional doublet-mechanical field equations of elastodynamics are derived under some simplifying assumption, and the analysis is then focused on the cases of linear and planar arrangements. Dispersion relations are established that demonstrate the dispersivity and retardation of both P- and S-waves at all scales other than those for which the continuum approximation is valid.
