The completion and dedication of the UNIDO-sponsored demonstration building in Shantou City was the occasion for this workshop held in Shantou City on 17-19 May 1994. The workshop was sponsored by UNIDO, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. It focused on a comparison on the state of base isolation technology around the world, including China, Japan, the United States, Italy, and New Zealand. Also included are a participant list; a list of papers and authors participating in the workshop; the NSF-sponsored participants' papers; and a list of base isolated buildings in the People's Republic of China.
