Soil liquefaction affects the seismic performance of highway bridges and there have been many vigorous studies conducted and applied to the design practice of bridges. This paper presents the design requirements of highway bridges for soil liquefaction with an emphasis on liquefaction potential assessment, ductility design of pier foundations for liquefaction, and seismic design of pier foundation for liquefaction induced ground flow.
