The purpose of the study was to develop rational guidelines and analytical procedures for evaluating the potential for liquefaction or cyclic failure of low-plasticity silts and clays during earthquake loading. The scope of work involved: (1) developing revised liquefaction susceptibility criteria for fine-grained soils, (2) developing analytical procedures for evaluating the cyclic failure potential of clay-like fine-grained soils, and (3) demonstrating these new criteria and procedures through application to case histories.
