A one-dimensional numerical model for contaminant flow in porous media is combined with a general reliability analysis program to perform probabilistic analysis of transport through clay liners. Examples of a homogenous clay liner and a composite clay liner are analyzed. Results indicate the predicted probabilities of a given outcome are quite sensitive to spatial and local variability of the hydraulic conductivity. More importantly, the sensitivity analysis provides insight into the relative significance of the individual components in the liner system.
