The Behavior of steel oil storage tanks on compressible foundations

Detailed studies of 42 tank failures showed that quite reliable evaluations of stability and settlement of tanks on compressible foundations can be made using simple analysis procedures. Conventional bearing capacity analysis techniques can be adapted to provide reliable stability analysis and safety against both base shear and edge shear failure for layered soil conditions.
