Relation of surficial earth materials to the characteristics of the 1992 Landers earthquake surface rupture

Surface rupture is studied in a largely undeveloped San Bernardino County area affected by the Landers earthquake in June 28, 1992. The study sought to determine whether a relationship between surficial earth materials and rupture zone characteristics could be established. Evidence of this relationship is not evident on a regional scale; however, shared characteristics of surface soils may have obscured differences observable in more distinct material types.
