Numerical modeling of the nonlinear cyclic response of shallow foundations

The scope of this report was to contribute to practical numerical procedures for reasonably capturing the nonlinear response of shallow foundations subjected to combined moment, axial, and shear cyclic loading. A simplified beam-on-nonlinear-Winkler foundation approach is used to model the response. Particular focus is given to capturing the expected consequences, e.g., permanent settlement, horizontal displacement, due to the benefits of mobilizing energy dissipation within the soil.
