The seismic resistant design of R/C coupled structural walls

Aktan, Ahmet E.; Bertero, Vitelmo V.

UCB/EERC-81/07, Earthquake Engineering Research Center, University of California, Berkeley, 1981-06, 240 pages (515/A39/1981)

This is the first in a series of progress reports summarizing developments and findings of integrated analytical and experimental research on the seismic response of reinforced concrete structural wall-frame structures conducted at the Univ. of California, Berkeley. Considerable efforts were devoted to the study of the seismic behavior of coupled structural walls and their behavior in wall-frame structural systems. This report documents the progress of that study. A survey of existing analytical and experimental work regarding the seismic response of reinforced concrete wall and coupled wall-frame systems, as well as relevant documented post-earthquake studies on these systems, is presented in the first part of the report. The 2nd progress report is: "Prediction of the seismic responses of R/C frame-coupled wall structures," by Aktan, Bertero, and Piazza, Aug. 1982 (UCB/EERC-82/12).
